United Way receives $3 million grant from HGAC Montgomery County United Way received a $3.1 million grant funded by the Houston-Galveston Area Council to help individuals and nonprofit organizations recover from the damage caused by Hurricane Ike.
Since October of 2009, MCUW has been able to assist:
158 homes with 253 adults and 104 children. The majority of these households were elderly or disabled. The grant ended on September 30, 2010 with only $1.2 million spent. MCUW hopes to receive an extension to continue a very successful trailer program where damaged manufactured homes from Hurricane Ike could get replacements. To receive assistance from this continuation of the grant, you must be assigned to a caseworker.
Please view this MCUW Grant Recipients Powerpoint for a great look at before and after photos of homes that were repaired during the HGAC grant process.
Montgomery County United Way has collaborated since before Hurricane Ike made landfall with local, state and national government entities, along with Montgomery County nonprofit partners, to assist in the response and recovery of Ike victims. Now with this grant available, further help can be obtained for reimbursement to the county government and nonprofits for response efforts. The bulk of the grant will go to unmet needs and minor house repairs for individuals in Montgomery and Liberty counties.
To receive assistance for damage from Hurricane Ike, you must be assigned to a caseworker by calling 1-888-IKE-RISE.
See Current Disaster Bulletins for updated Hurricane Ike grant information.
