The Strategic Investment Committee is formed annually from volunteers representing a cross section of careers and locale.  Non-profit organizations not seeking funding from Montgomery County United Way, faith based organizations, business representatives, retirees, school and government employees serve.  These volunteers live or work in all areas of the county.

  • Beginning in April, Strategic Investment Volunteers are trained to assess applications from funded partners who apply for funding within the 3 conceptual funding areas of MCUW which are organized and facilitated by Impact Councils:
  • Creating Independence
  • Community Well Being
  • Responding to Crisis
  • Individuals serve on panels that examine the applications for completeness and proof of measurements of program effectiveness to the clients the agency serves.  The panels then perform site visits to be able to ask questions of agency staff, board members and often, the clients themselves.
  • After site visits, volunteers meet to make funding recommendations to their respective Impact Council, which in turn, make recommendations to the Community Impact Committee and then to the MCUW Board of Directors for funding decisions at the June Board meeting of each year.
